Choose the Right Grass

There are two basic varieties of turf grass: cool season and warm season.

Cool season grasses (fescue, bluegrass, perennial ryegrass) have a long growing season, grow in shade, and remain green in winter.

Warm season grasses (zoysiagrass, bermudagrass) need sun, require less water, and go dormant in the winter. In the spring, they green up again.

Which type of grass will thrive in your lawn depends on the amount of sun, how you will use your lawn (i.e. ornamental vs. playground), and how much maintenance you are willing to provide.

Some yards may be suited for both types in different areas.
