JCSA Plants Demonstration "Water Smart" Landscape at County Complex
James City County, VA As an integral part of the JCSA's "Let's be Water Smart" initiative, the JCSA has installed a Water Smart landscape at the JCSA offices in the County complex (101-E Mounts Bay Road).
The landscape, designed by Lee Schnappinger, a James City County landscape architect, and Lisa Meddin, former JCSA Water Conservation Coordinator, incorporates Chesapeake Bay friendly practices as well as Water Smart practices, and has been certified as a BayScape through the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay.
The BayScape is designed as a demonstration residential landscape showing homeowners and businesses how they can reduce outdoor water use by incorporating Water Smart and Chesapeake Bay-friendly landscape practices at their homes and businesses. It features fifteen hardy, drought tolerant and deer resistant plants that thrive in our area, provide four season color and texture and are planted according to their light and moisture needs.
Each plant grouping is identified by its Latin and common name. A sign at the entrance to Building E describes the BayScape principals, and informational material is available in the JCSA lobby. The BayScape will also be featured along with other demonstration BayScapes in several states on the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay's website at www.acb-online.org.
