JCSA Customers Dodge Mandatory Conservation
July 25, 2002 - (James City County)According to Larry Foster, General Manager of the JCSA, "Our customers have done a wonderful job conserving water over the past 15 days. But we aren't out of the woods yet, and the only way to avoid Stage II mandatory restrictions is to keep demand under 5.5 million gallons per day (mgd) throughout the summer."
The average daily demand for the fifteen days between July 10 and July 25 was 5 mgd. If demand had exceeded 5.5 mgd, the County was prepared to declare Stage II of the Drought Management Plan, which includes no outdoor water use except with a container of 3 gallons or less.

In related news, on Tuesday, July 23, the James City County Board of Supervisors adopted a permanent Ordinance Governing Outdoor Water Use. The Ordinance calls for an odd/even outdoor water schedule, and remains in place along with Stage I. For details, click here. Citizens may also call the Outdoor Water Information Line at 757-259-4152 for a recorded message, or JCSA Customer Service at 757-253-6800.
